Why use a Slumber Weighted Blanket?

The weighted blanket is growing in popularity. Its effect and benefits are being widely recognised. But what is a weighted blanket and why are they becoming increasingly popular? In this blog, we will aim to cover all the questions you could possibly have and explain how using one of our Slumber Weighted Blankets in the comfort of your own home could benefit you.

What is a weighted blanket?

The clue is in the name! The Allure Slumber Weighted Blanket is a heavy blanket, available in a five different weights, packed with thousands of tiny glass beads.

What are the benefits?

The Allure Slumber Weighted Blanket is designed to act much like a tight hug would do, helping you to calm down and relax.

The science behind using a weighted blanket is simple - something called deep touch pressure (DTP). This is where you gently apply pressure to the body to aid the release of serotonin.

The heaviness of the blanket, a delicate yet firm pressure on your body, reaches the deep-seated receptors and helps with the release of serotonin and endorphins, chemicals that our body naturally releases to make us feel calm and relaxed.

Serotonin is sometimes called the happy chemical, because its release is linked and contributes to happiness, well-being and relaxation.

This all means that the use of our blanket will dramatically increase the likelihood of a good nights sleep, making it the ideal sleeping companion for anyone suffering with insomnia or for people with sensory integration and psychomotor disorders such as autism and ADHD.

Why choose the Slumber Weighted Blanket?

The Allure Slumber Weighted Blanket is packed with tiny environmentally friendly glass beads that will lay smoothly on the body. They are non-toxic, hypo-allergenic and avoid the odour which plastic beads sometimes initially give off.

These beads are extremely tiny, measuring between 0.9-1.1mm in diameter. Due to the careful gridded square stitching, the beads will always remain evenly distributed right across the blanket.

The cover of the blanket is created using beautifully soft, easy-care microfibre polyester. This guarantees durability and guards against the charcoal grey colour fading when it is washed.

You could use this blanket in a number of different ways, including on top of or underneath your duvet, increasing the likelihood of a full nights sleep.

Blanket Weight Recommended Body Weight
4kg/8.8lb 35-45kg/77-99lb
5.5kg/12.1lb 45-60kg/99-132lb
6.8kg/15lb 60-75kg/132-165lb
7kg/15.4lb 60-80kg/132-176lb
9kg/19.8lb 80-100kg/176-220lb

Our recommendation is that the blanket be approximately 10% of the user's body weight. For safety, these blankets are not suitable for babies or young children.

The Allure Slumber Weighted Blanket can be machine washed on a low, gentle setting with water below 30 degrees. However, we do recommend that blankets weighing more than 5.5kg be washed in a commercial washer with the capacity for large loads.
